Chateau Energy Solutions Reduces Costs, Improves Lighting and Safety with LED Lighting Upgrade

Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving 2.5 million customers in 155 counties in Georgia. Georgia Power sought improved lighting quality, as well as improved safety and security at a transformer repair shop. As a company that is highly committed to providing its customers safe, reliable, and affordable energy, Georgia Power requires a partner who also understands the significance of energy quality and efficiency and chose Chateau Energy Solutions as that partner.

Chateau Energy Solutions conducted an assessment of the 120,000 sq. ft. transformer repair shop and evaluated the condition of the existing interior lighting system. The safety and security of the Georgia Power employees are of greatest importance as large, heavy pad-mounted transformers are repaired at this shop location. Not only did the large bay areas and crane areas in the shop need proper lighting, but also the task areas required suitable lighting levels for work to be completed when rebuilding transformers. Chateau identified opportunities to reduce costs and improve lighting quality and safety with LED lighting upgrade options for the existing fixtures.

Chateau Energy Solutions replaced and upgraded more than 750 fixtures with LED technology increasing light levels in the shop up to three times existing levels while lowering fixture wattage from 1,000 watts to 300 watts. The LED lighting upgrade saved Georgia Power more than $205,000 annually, decreasing energy consumption by 1.8 million+ kWh per year, with a short 2.3-year payback.
