Hendrick Automotive Group

Opportunity

Vehicle manufacturers are making a push to an all-electric future and dealerships continue to play a critical role in their delivery and service model. Dealerships are on the frontline of electrification as they work directly with customers to find the best model and charging solutions for their needs. Most vehicle manufacturers have established strategies to ensure charging is available at their dealerships. As a result, auto dealers are required to install charging infrastructure in order to receive their electric vehicle allotment from the manufacturer.

The challenge for these dealerships is that EV manufacturers are requiring a specified number of level two and level three chargers to be installed at the dealership by a specific year. However, these dealerships are owned by an individual or owner group and the manufacturers do not provide financial support to the dealers to deploy EV charging infrastructure and have charging capability.

Solution

Hendrick Automotive Group selected Chateau Energy Solutions for deployment of the EV charging infrastructure based on Chateau Energy’s expertise and 15 years of experience in the industry. Hendrick was already familiar with Chateau Energy from their successful implementation of lighting projects at a distribution center that serves several Hendrick’s locations.

Chateau Energy successfully installed a total of nine chargers across the three dealership locations. Gwinnett Place Honda was equipped with two DCFC fast charges and one level 2 charger, as well as the capacity for two more DCFC chargers. Newnan Honda received one DCFC fast charger and two Level 2 chargers, while Mazda Mall received two Level 2 chargers and one dual-port Level 2 charger. Chateau Energy was responsible for the design, engineering, construction, procurement of electrical equipment, and commissioning of the project.

Benefits

Now equipped with the necessary EV charging infrastructure, these three Hendrick dealership locations can charge electric vehicles on-site, ensuring the fulfillment of their allotment from the manufacturer. The dealerships can now not only charge the cars they sell but also provide charging locations for their customers. Additionally, the installed EV charging infrastructure allows for the addition of more chargers in the future at the Gwinnett location.
